The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of HallowMace Africa, Ambassador Sunny Anderson Osiebe, has disclosed that the organization is considering making its National Legislative Awards a biennial event following the overwhelming success of its maiden edition held in Abuja.

Speaking after the HallowMace National Legislative Awards 2026, Osiebe said the event, organised to commemorate the organisation’s 10th anniversary, was conceived to recognise lawmakers who have distinguished themselves through impactful legislation, effective oversight and quality representation.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at promoting excellence in public service while encouraging legislators who continue to deliver democratic dividends despite public criticism of the National Assembly.

“We want Nigerians to understand that, despite the perception that the legislature is a rubber stamp, there are lawmakers who have consistently delivered dividends of democracy through quality legislation, oversight and effective representation,” Osiebe said.

He explained that the remarkable success of the inaugural edition has prompted HallowMace Africa to consider institutionalising the awards as a regular programme.

“Given the huge success of this maiden edition, we will return to the drawing board to determine the best way forward. We may not organise it every year because legislative performance is better assessed over a longer period. We are considering making it a biennial event,” he stated.

Osiebe described the organisation’s 10-year journey as a testament to resilience, consistency and an unwavering belief in its vision of promoting accountability, good governance and democratic development.

He noted that the awards seek to identify and celebrate legislators who have made measurable contributions through lawmaking, oversight functions and effective constituency representation.

One of the major highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of the Award of Excellence to the Wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairperson of the House of Representatives Spouses Association (HORSA), Mrs. Fatima Abbas Tajudeen.

Receiving the award, Mrs. Tajudeen described the recognition as a call to greater responsibility and dedicated it to everyone committed to improving the lives of Nigerians.

She thanked HallowMace Africa for recognising service, excellence and commitment to nation-building, saying the honour reflected the collective efforts of individuals and institutions working to build a more compassionate and inclusive society.

Mrs. Tajudeen highlighted the interventions of the Fatima Tajudeen Abbas Foundation in women’s empowerment, education, healthcare, humanitarian assistance and social inclusion, stressing that the foundation remains committed to supporting vulnerable communities across the country.

She also reaffirmed her advocacy against gender-based violence, support for cancer and malaria awareness campaigns, and her backing for greater female representation in elective offices through the Special Seats Bill for women.

The HORSA Chairperson commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, for his leadership and support, while also praising members of the 10th National Assembly for their commitment to legislation, oversight and constituency development.

She further applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for pursuing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda and acknowledged the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her humanitarian interventions in support of women, children and vulnerable Nigerians.

Mrs. Tajudeen urged Nigerians to continue investing in women, noting that empowering women strengthens families, transforms communities and accelerates national development.

She congratulated other award recipients and encouraged them to regard the recognition as motivation to continue serving Nigeria with excellence, integrity and dedication.
