Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, has felicitated with the immediate past Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State Chapter, Elder (Engr.) Omeni Sobotie, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as a bridge-builder and a pillar of progressive politics.
Onowakpo, in a congratulatory message issued on Thursday, said Sobotie had distinguished himself through decades of dedicated service to Delta State, the APC and Nigeria, noting that his contributions to public service and political development remained worthy of commendation.
The Senator, who felicitated with Sobotie on behalf of his family and the people of Delta South Senatorial District, described the celebrant as an accomplished engineer, seasoned public servant and political pacesetter whose over three decades of active political engagement had been defined by wisdom, commitment and purposeful leadership.
According to him, Sobotie’s service as Commissioner for Environment and Political Adviser in Delta State, as well as his tenure as Special Adviser on Legislative, Plenary Matters and Political Affairs to the Deputy President of the Senate, reflected his depth of experience and capacity for public service.
Onowakpo also commended Sobotie’s leadership of the APC in Delta State, following his election as the party’s state chairman in 2021.
He said Sobotie used his tenure to strengthen and reposition the party while promoting unity, inclusiveness and greater political cohesion across the state.
“What particularly distinguishes Elder Sobotie is his remarkable ability to build bridges and unite diverse interests around a common vision. He is a man of peace, principle and strong grassroots appeal,” Onowakpo said.
The Senator further noted that Sobotie’s consensus-driven approach had contributed to broadening the APC’s base and fostering cohesion from the ward to the state level.
He described the celebrant’s commitment to equity, fairness, inclusiveness and party supremacy as a valuable reference point in progressive politics in Delta State.
Onowakpo prayed to Almighty God to grant Sobotie continued good health, renewed strength and greater wisdom, while wishing him many more years of impactful service to the APC, Delta State and Nigeria.
