Elders, leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta South Senatorial District have rallied support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and other candidates of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders, at the Delta South Senatorial District Mega Meeting of APC leaders, elders and stakeholders held on Thursday in Warri, resolved to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, reconcile aggrieved members and work collectively to secure an overwhelming victory for the APC at the polls.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for party leaders to assess the political situation in the district and strategise on how to translate the growing support for the party into actual votes in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the gathering, the senator representing Delta South, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, charged party leaders and members to return to their wards, units and communities and commence aggressive mobilisation for the APC.
Thomas said the responsibility before members was to work together and ensure victory for the party and its candidates across the senatorial district.
“The task before us is victory. We have a responsibility to work together, mobilise our people and ensure that our party produces the maximum votes in the forthcoming elections.”
The senator appealed to APC candidates to remain committed to the party and avoid actions capable of creating fresh divisions, stressing that there was no room for complacency.
He urged party members to effectively communicate the achievements of the Tinubu administration and the Oborevwori-led Delta State Government to the electorate at the grassroots.
Thomas said voters were closely watching the performance of governments at the federal and state levels, adding that APC members had a responsibility to properly explain the impact of government policies and programmes to the people.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, said the political atmosphere in Delta South was changing, with youths and leaders across the various ethnic nationalities showing renewed commitment to the electoral process.
Guwor challenged APC members to ensure that all 87 wards in Delta South delivered massively for the party in 2027.
“Delta South will do better than before. We are determined to make Delta South the highest-performing senatorial district in Delta State,” he said.
The Speaker called for strong support for APC candidates at the National and State Assembly levels, including Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, Basil Ganagana and other candidates.
He described the emerging unity among APC leaders and stakeholders as a major strength that must be sustained ahead of the elections.
The State Chairman of the APC, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, said the party was determined to restore Delta South to its position as a major political force in the state.
Arenyeka, who traced the district’s political history particularly from 1989, said Delta South had historically played a significant role in the state’s politics but had lost some ground to Delta North in recent years.
He urged leaders and members across the different ethnic nationalities and local government areas to put aside their differences and rebuild the party’s structures in the district.
He called for intensified mobilisation across Warri South-West, Warri North, Warri South, Isoko North, Isoko South, Bomadi, Burutu, Patani and other parts of Delta South.
Arenyeka also reaffirmed the party’s support for President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, its senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly candidates, urging members to work collectively for their success.
In his welcome remarks, the Delta South APC Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba, identified reconciliation and unity as critical to the party’s success following the conclusion of its primaries.
Amgbaduba appealed to members who were dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries to set aside their grievances and use the party’s internal dispute-resolution mechanisms to address their concerns.
He also urged candidates who emerged from the primaries to reach out to their former opponents, reconcile with them and establish inclusive campaign structures capable of accommodating all interests within the party.
According to him, the APC campaign in Delta South must focus on taking the achievements of the APC-led governments to the grassroots, particularly in infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic development and empowerment programmes targeting women, youths and the elderly.
The chairman directed local government party chairmen to maintain close communication with the state leadership and promptly address issues capable of affecting the party’s unity and mobilisation efforts.
The meeting attracted several prominent APC leaders and stakeholders, including Senator Stella Omu; Senator James Manager; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Johnson Erijo; Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors; Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor, State Organising Secretary of the APC; Mrs Ifeyinwa Sobotie, State Women Leader; and members of the National and State Assemblies, among others.
In their goodwill messages, Chief Bernard Okumagba, representing the Urhobo; Hon. Daniel Reyenieju, Itsekiri; Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Ijaw; and Chief Ovuozourie Macaulay, Isoko, urged party members to remain united and work for the success of all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
The stakeholders maintained that unity, reconciliation, grassroots mobilisation and effective communication of the achievements of APC-led governments would be critical to the party’s campaign.
They consequently directed party leaders and members across Delta South to return to their respective wards and units, mobilise voters and ensure that the renewed political momentum translates into a decisive electoral victory for the APC in 2027.
