The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has reaffirmed its support for the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, saying the lawmaker remains focused and committed to delivering on the mandate entrusted to him by his constituents despite recent political developments.

In a statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Iroegbu Emenike, the party said it had closely monitored recent developments involving Ogah and his predecessor, former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

The party said that following extensive consultations with the federal lawmaker, it was satisfied that Ogah remained “focused, unshaken and fully committed” to effective representation, constituency development and advancing the interests of the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi at the National Assembly.

It urged residents of the federal constituency and members of the Labour Party to remain calm and continue supporting the lawmaker, insisting that he would not be intimidated or distracted from carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to him by the electorate.

The Labour Party maintained that the 2023 general election reflected the will of the people, stressing that democracy requires respect for electoral outcomes.

The party also called on Onyejeocha to allow Ogah concentrate on his legislative responsibilities, cautioning against actions it said could create unnecessary political distractions.

While acknowledging that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to seek legal redress, the party argued that judicial processes should not be used as instruments of political intimidation or harassment against a serving legislator.

According to the statement, if Onyejeocha believes she still enjoys widespread support in the constituency, she should present herself before the electorate during the next general election rather than engage in actions capable of disrupting the current mandate.

Highlighting Ogah’s performance since assuming office, the Labour Party described him as one of the most active first-term lawmakers in the House of Representatives.

It credited him with sponsoring legislative interventions, attracting constituency projects, implementing educational support and scholarship programmes, undertaking healthcare initiatives, youth empowerment schemes and maintaining regular engagement with constituents.

The party said these achievements had earned the lawmaker recognition beyond the boundaries of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency and positioned him among the outstanding performers in the current House of Representatives.

The statement further appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups, religious leaders and other stakeholders in the constituency to continue supporting Ogah in his efforts to provide what it described as purposeful and people-centred representation.

The Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, also reaffirmed the support of the State Working Committee and the entire party structure for the lawmaker, expressing confidence in his performance and commitment to his constitutional responsibilities.

The party concluded by expressing confidence that Ogah would continue to justify the trust reposed in him by the people through effective representation and sustained constituency development.
