Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, who represents Delta South Senatorial District, has announced the passing of his mother-in-law, Madam Orere Victoria Idodo, who died on Monday at the age of 80.
In a statement, the senator said Madam Idodo passed away at about 3:15 p.m. after a period of illness during which she received medical treatment. He noted that she endured her health challenges with unwavering faith and grace until her peaceful transition.
Describing her as “more than a mother” to the family, Senator Joel-Onowakpo paid glowing tribute to her life of faith, sacrifice and service, saying she was a woman of boundless love, impeccable character and unwavering devotion to God and humanity.
He recalled that the late matriarch was known for her warmth, humour and vibrant personality, while also being a principled and loving disciplinarian who instilled values of hard work, respect and integrity in those around her.
According to the senator, her enduring legacy of kindness, strong moral values and selfless service will continue to inspire generations, even as her family mourns her passing.
Senator Joel-Onowakpo appealed to friends, associates and well-wishers to remember the family in their prayers, asking God to grant the deceased eternal rest and give the family the strength to bear the loss.
He added that details of the funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
