Incumbent Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, has emerged as the leading contender in the ongoing All Progressives Congress senatorial primary election in Delta South, maintaining a clear advantage in six out of the eight local government areas announced so far.

The primary election, conducted under the direct primary Option A4 system, witnessed large turnout by party members across the district, with officials describing the process as peaceful, transparent, and credible.

Results announced at various collation centres showed Senator Joel-Onowakpo gaining widespread support from party faithful across the senatorial district, further strengthening his chances of securing the APC ticket for the 2027 general elections.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the exercise alongside party representatives and electoral committee members.

Meanwhile, in other senatorial districts, Ede Dafinone defeated Ovie Omo-Agege in Delta Central, while former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa won the Delta North APC senatorial primary against Ned Nwoko.
