Gombe Lawmakers Back Nass Association Of Gombe State Indigenes

In a bid to drive grassroots participation in government, the Federal lawmakers from Gombe state have unanimously backed a group, the Association of Gombe state Indigenes at the National Assembly.

The pledge was made on Monday in Abuja at the maiden Award of Excellence Ceremony to deserving senators and Honourable members from the state.

While speaking at the event, the chairman of the occasion, Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe Central) expressed delight and congratulated the association, saying the quest for liaison office by the association outside the National Assembly will be given consideration.

Specifically, Senator Goje, who is also the chairman of Senate committee on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) promised on behalf of other federal lawmakers from the state to support the aspiration of the association to establish a liaison office, adding that the office when established will go a long way to assist constituents in Abuja.

He said “I have been in the National Assembly for the past 14 years, I have not witnessed this type of occasion.

“I congratulate the leadership and members of this association, I believe if you continue in this line, we will go far”.

He continued: “I hope my colleagues will support the initiative of having a liaison office in Abuja”.

Earlier, the chairman of the association, Dr. James Linga said the aim of the association was to recognize and honour hardworking legislators from Gombe state.

According to Linga “We are over 130 registered members, we are motivated by our lawmakers, especially Senator Danjuma Goje, Hassan Dankwambo and others”.

Additionally, the chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Dr. Abbas Haruna explained that the association was celebrating success and achievement.

He described Gombe state as small London in the Savannah, and attributed the pace of development in the state to the foundation laid by Senator Goje when he held sway as the governor of the state.

“The association has deemed it necessary to give award of excellence, Gombawa are hardworking people where ever they find themselves” Haruna remarked.

Meanwhile, highlights of the occasion was the presentation of awards of excellence to Honourable Abdullahi Rasheed, Honourable Ali Isa, Senator Anthony Yaro and Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje.
