Ondo State Government Promotes Equality Through Sensitize Boy-child Initiative
....As Dr Seun Osamaye says Unique needs of the boy Child will be identified and addressed
In a pivotal move towards the holistic development of young boys, the Ondo State Government Under the visionary leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has launched a sensitization program focused on the boy child.
Speaking at the event, The Special Adviser to The Governor on Women Affairs, Dr Seun Bosede Osamaye has said The initiative aims to instill positive values, enhance emotional intelligence, foster attidunal changes and equip boys with essential life skills needed to navigate societal pressures effectively.
The program was officially flagged off on 21st of March 2025, in three schools in Ondo Town namely:
Ondo Boys High School,
Ondo Anglican Grammar School
St. Joseph’s College,all in Ondo town of Ondo State.
The event was warmly received by students, teachers and principals who expressed excitements and appreciations for the impactful program.
Key stakeholders from the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Ondo State Agency for Gender-Based Violence led engaging sessions to educate the boys on critical life skills. Nurse Patience Aarinola Adamolekun, a member of the Hospital Management Board spoke on emotional intelligence, explaining how they could develop this life-changing skill using the RULER framework:Recognize emotions, Understand their causes, Label them accurately, Express emotions appropriately and Regulate them effectively.
A legal expert, Barrister Afolabi, the Executive Secretary of the Ondo State Agency Against Gender-Based Violence (OSAA-GBV) addressed the topic of anger management, emphasizing that while anger is a natural emotion, failing to control it has led many young men into trouble and correctional centres. She urged the students to develop healthy coping mechanisms and seek help if they struggle with managing their emotions.
At St. Joseph’s College, A University Don, Professor Bridget Awosika engaged the students in a discussion on resisting negative peer pressure, offering practical strategies to help them make informed and independent decisions. While the Director, Research and Documentation, Mr Oladeji Olorunsola emphasised on Attitudinal changes, reiterating the impacts of good behaviour and character.
The event was also graced by well-meaning political leaders in Ondo West especially women from the local government notably, The SSA to Mr Governor, Chief Mrs Olaoye(Aserere), The Secretary to the Local Government, Erelu Abimbola Oshifeso, The APC LG Women Leader, Chief Mrs Biola Fayehun, SA Mobilization (Mrs Udoh Olawoye), Mama Buje Budanu and Over Forty Other Appointees and Strategic Women Stakeholders and Leaders who all appreciated the Governor for the timely program.
On the Ministry’s Team are all directors of the Ministry and selected leaders of the O’datiwa Women Initiative notably the SSA to the Governor on Women Affairs (Hon. Sarah Esakumoh), Fmr SSA to Mr Governor on Women Affairs (Chief Adeniran Kehinde(KK), SA Mobilization, Mrs Bosede Akinboyede, Chief Mrs Silifat Sobowale, Nurse Omowunmi Fadairo, Alhaja Yusuf Mariam, and a host of others.
