The Senate Committee chairman on Information and National Orientation, Engr. Eze Kenneth Emeka has said that the new Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Charles Ebuebu was specifically brought in to the commission to effect a digital switch over,

Senator Emeka revealed this on Wednesday in Abuja shortly after the budget defence of the Commission. He added that President Bola Tinubu appointed him exclusively and fully directed to effect the implementation of the digital switch over.

He noted that there’s urgent need for a digital switch over because the whole globe had switched over but Nigeria is still operating analog , a situation he noted is against the standard already raised by International Communication Union (ICU) in Geneva which Nigeria is a signatory to.

All Facts Newspaper understand that the switch over process to digital started in 2015, and nine years after Nigeria is yet to effectively switch over.

However, Senator Emeka noted that his committee wasn’t impressed with the presentation of the commission ‘s budget that was why they sent them back to go and correct the abnormally as pointed out by the Senators.

According to him, “we were not really satisfied with the presentation of their budget because certain questions were not answered properly that was why we asked them to go and come back with satisfactory answers because we are particular about Nigeria going digital very soon.

“What we did was to encourage and educate them on the lapses, you must also remember that the DG Charles Ebuebu has just been appointed, less than six months, so we believe as they are coming back they will do the needful,” he said.
