International Women’s Day: NPA celebrates women driving progress in the Maritime Sector

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) proudly celebrates the resilience, dedication, and outstanding contributions of women in the maritime sector as the world commemorates international women’s day.

Women across the authority continues to make significant impacts in diverse and critical areas of operations including firefighting, security, piloting, engineering, hydrography, administration, and other maritime support services such as aids to navigation. their commitment and professionalism demonstrate that excellence in the maritime industry is not limited by gender.

Speaking on the occasion, the managing director of the NPA, Abubakar Dantsoho, reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women within the organisation and the wider maritime sector.

According to him, deliberate steps have been taken to ensure increased female representation in strategic roles within his office.

“Women currently occupy about 60 percent of the positions among my aides and technical assistants, while men make up the remaining 40 percent. this deliberate action reflects our strong commitment to promoting gender inclusion and creating opportunities for women to thrive in the maritime industry,” he said.

The authority commended the dedication, professionalism, and achievements of women within the organisation and across the maritime sector, noting that their contributions remain vital to the continued growth, efficiency, and global competitiveness of nigeria’s port industry.

The NPA therefore joins the global community in celebrating women who continue to break barriers, drive innovation, and shape a more inclusive and equitable future for the maritime sector and the nation at large.
