Senator Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has expressed optimism over the outcome of the 8th National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the exercise will reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the sidelines of the convention, Adeola commended the organisers for what he described as a peaceful, well-attended, and orderly gathering, noting that expectations among party members remain high. He said the convention is expected to produce a new set of national officers capable of taking the APC to the “next level.”
According to him, “The expectation is very high, and it is expected that whatever form the process takes, it will end well. We are looking forward to a new National Executive that will work hard to ensure the success of the party in the 2027 general election.”
The lawmaker explained that the convention marks the final stage in a series of party-building processes, including ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, culminating in the emergence of a new national leadership structure.
He added that the next step would be the inauguration of the National Working Committee (NWC), which will determine the modalities for party primaries in line with the Electoral Act. These, he said, may include consensus or direct primaries, alongside the announcement of timelines for candidate selection.
“For Ogun State, we are ready. Once the NWC makes its pronouncement, we will comply and proceed accordingly,” he stated.
In a significant political development, Adeola also hinted at his ambition to contest the Ogun State governorship in 2027. While stopping short of a formal declaration, he confirmed that he would make his intentions public “in no distant time.”
“I am here to formally say that I will be running for governor. At the appropriate time, I will declare to the people of Ogun State my intention to govern the state come 2027,” he said.
The APC convention is widely seen as a crucial moment for consolidating party unity and strengthening its electoral strategy ahead of the next general elections.
