Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has welcomed the recent Supreme Court judgment affirming David Mark as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the ruling as a defining moment not just for the party, but for Nigeria’s democratic journey.
Reacting shortly after the apex court’s decision, Abaribe noted that the judgment goes beyond settling internal party disputes, emphasizing that it reinforces the supremacy of the rule of law and strengthens democratic institutions in the country.
According to him, the verdict represents “a victory for Nigeria and democracy,” at a time when public confidence in political structures and judicial processes is being closely scrutinized.
The Abia South lawmaker commended the judiciary for what he termed a courageous and principled stand, adding that such decisions are critical in safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s multiparty system. He stressed that the stability of political parties is essential for credible elections, particularly as the nation gradually builds momentum towards the 2027 general elections.
Abaribe, however, cautioned against complacency. He urged members of the ADC, as well as Nigerians at large, not to see the judgment as an endpoint, but rather as a renewed call to action in the broader struggle for good governance, accountability, and national progress. “This is not just about one party or one office,” he stated. “It is about the future of our democracy and the kind of nation we are determined to build.”
He further called on all factions within the ADC to sheath their swords and rally behind the leadership of David Mark in the interest of unity and progress. Only through cohesion, he argued, can the party position itself as a viable alternative capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s political landscape.
Reiterating his belief in collective responsibility, Abaribe encouraged citizens to remain actively engaged in the democratic process, insisting that sustained vigilance and participation are necessary to ensure that the gains of democracy are not eroded.
In conclusion, the senator framed the Supreme Court’s decision as both a legal resolution and a moral boost for those committed to the preservation of democratic ideals, urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in their pursuit of a more just, stable, and prosperous nation.
