The Nigerian Senate has urged the Federal Government to immediately deploy more troops and security assets to Ukum, Katsina-Ala and Logo Local Government Areas of Benue State following the massacre of 113 persons in four coordinated attacks.

The call came on Thursday after Senator Emmanuel Udende (Benue North-East) raised a motion of urgent public importance on the continuing killings in his senatorial district, brought under Orders 41 and 51 of the Senate Standing Orders.

Udende, while moving the motion, said the affected communities had been thrown into mourning and humanitarian crisis as gunmen unleashed mayhem without provocation.

Giving a breakdown of the killings, the lawmaker said 24 persons were kìlled at Sai in Katsina-Ala LGA, while 63 persons were slaughterèd at Bom and Aboajio villages in Mbazun Council Ward of Ukum LGA.

He said the two incidents, which claimed 87 lives, occurred during the Senate recess and were followed by another attack at Ayilamo, Tombo Ward of Logo LGA, where 15 persons, including six Mobile Police personnel, were kìlled.

According to him, Senate committee Chairman on anti-corruption and Financial Crimes, the latest attack occurred on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Tse Biliji and Tse Shishi Nyako villages in Mbatian Council Ward of Ukum LGA, where 11 persons were kìlled and property worth millions destroyed.

“The four reported attacks have claimed a cumulative total of 113 lives, including six Mobile Police personnel, based on figures presented to the Senate,” Udende said.

He warned that the persistence of the attacks had heightened fear, paralysed farming and economic activities, and exposed rural communities to mass displacement.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Obot Akpabio led the Senate in its resolutions condemned in the strongest terms the killìngs across Sai, Bom and Aboajio, Tse Biliji and Tse Shishi Nyako and Ayilamo.

It urged the Federal Government to halt the bloodshed through coordinated security operations and adequate deployment of personnel and operational resources to vulnerable communities in Benue State.

The upper chamber also called on the Inspector-General of Police, Chief of Army Staff and heads of security and intelligence agencies to strengthen security operations, establish early-warning and rapid-response mechanisms, investigate the killings and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.

In addition, the Senate directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide immediate relief materials and humanitarian assistance to displaced persons and victims.

The lawmakers observed a minute’s silence in honour of the victims and commiserated with their families, the people of Benue North-East and the Nigeria Police Force over the loss of six Mobile Police personnel at Ayilamo.
