Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and promoting legislative capacity building at all levels of government following the official visit of councillors from Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State to the National Assembly.

The delegation, led by Hon. Ekpemupolo Idukedoumene Samuel, Leader of the House, was received at the National Assembly where members undertook a guided tour of the Senate Complex, observed plenary proceedings, and later held an interactive session with the senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas.

Speaking during the engagement, Senator Joel-Onowakpo described the visit as a valuable opportunity for the councillors to gain firsthand knowledge of national legislative procedures, strengthen intergovernmental cooperation, and acquire insights that would enhance governance and service delivery at the grassroots level.

He commended the Warri South-West Legislative Arm for embarking on the excursion, noting that continuous investment in the training and exposure of local legislators remains critical to building a stronger and more effective democratic system across all tiers of government.

The senator also expressed appreciation to the National Assembly’s Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and the Education and Excursions Unit for facilitating the visit and ensuring its successful coordination.

According to him, fostering collaboration between elected representatives at the local and national levels is essential for promoting good governance, institutional development, and sustainable progress for the people of Delta South and Nigeria as a whole.

“Together, we continue to build capacity, promote good governance, and deliver meaningful development for the people of Delta South and Nigeria at large,” Senator Joel-Onowakpo stated.
