Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday welcomed Senator Neda Imasuen (Edo South) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following his defection from the Labour Party (LP), assuring him that his efforts would not be in vain under the party’s banner.
The Senate formally announced Senator Imasuen’s defection during plenary after a letter conveying his resignation from the Labour Party was read aloud by Senate President Akpabio.
In the letter, Imasuen cited internal crises within the Labour Party as the reason for his decision to leave. He expressed confidence in the APC’s leadership and ideology, stating his readiness to contribute more effectively to national development.
Following the announcement, senators from the majority APC caucus warmly received Imasuen with applause and handshakes, ushering him to his newly allocated seat on the majority side of the chamber.
Welcoming the Edo South senator, Senate President Akpabio said, “On behalf of the leadership of the Senate and the entire APC family, I welcome you, Distinguished Senator Neda. You will not labour in vain.”
The defection boosts the APC’s strength in the upper legislative chamber, as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
